Intro to Arivaca ride. Saturday 4/3/10

Postby Bonzai » Mon Mar 29, 2010 10:16 pm

Hey there members,

In light of recent Arivaca myths I'd like to plan a Introduction ride to Arivaca for any members who have not found this jewel ride yet, or for anyone just wanting to go for a ride.

Easter is Sunday so that day is ruled out.

Rough plans are ...

Meetup at a central location close to I-10 like Park & Speedway Circle K. 9:00am (977 East Speedway)
Fuel up.
Kick Stands up at 9:30am
Take I-10 south to I-19.
First stop will be in Amado just off I-19.
Regroup and head out after everyone is there.
Destination will be the coffee shop just outside of Arivaca.

The route as planned is 60 miles, click the following link to see the map.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=977+East+Speedway+Boulevard,+Tucson,+AZ+85719-4418+(Circle+K)&daddr=31.587995,-111.321904&geocode=FS7j6wEdke1i-SGAvF-4hqjWJylnRkpWD3HWhjGhppJfmaXGKw%3B&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=18&sll=31.588635,-111.321223&sspn=0.003496,0.004898&ie=UTF8&ll=31.947501,-111.037445&spn=0.89143,1.253815&z=10

Remember, the goal here is to provide an introduction ride to those members who are uncomfortable with Arivaca or have not done it before. Of course anyone is welcomed and it would be great to have more than just one guide. We may even do the road twice if time permits.

It's supposed to rain Wed/Thu so I'm unsure how the roads will be, but we aren't going to breaking any land speed records here.

I'll put a poll up to see who's up for it. this would be a great thing to offer our new members and semi-new riders. We did this (informally) the other weekend with 18 bikes and it was a blast.

Thanks,

-Dean

Ps. Maybe our Sierra Vista, Casa Grand and TucsonSB friends could come along too?

Hello <insert boss name>, Dennis can't come to work today. He's suffering from delayed post traumatic stress syndrome from his wreck last year and the doctor says the only cure is an Arivaca ride Saturday.

:)

TucsonSB is doing a Sunday ride, but getting out Sunday is super tough for me.

This may work, Sunday's are tough for me as well.

Couple of suggestions (since this is an intro ride):

1. Do a pre-run to check conditions (earlier or the day before - if possible)
2. Remember to warn about cows, cattle guards, illegals crossing the road, Border Patrol vs sheriff vs rangers, and of course "the dirt"

If I can make it, I'll probably meet up by Speedway & I-10 or Irvington & I-19.

I'm in. I'll take it slow (I promise). I need a lazy Sunday ride anyway, and doing it a day earlier is even better.

Good offering, Dean. This sounds like a good idea to get riders familiar with Arivaca's twisties. If anyone wants to ride in the "slower" pack, I'll be in it.

It'll be nothing but slower packs, well maybe not packs because that isn't too safe. But it will be very casual.

Jammer, can you be a guide for 1 or 2 riders?

Yes, I got the green light, so I'm there. I got nothing planned until Sunday anyway. :)

Still 9am at Park and Speedway?

Not sure about the slow part - everyone says that and then zoom zoom!

Ok, I TRY to do the zoom zoom too!

Nobody is holding anybody back, if you want to ride at a higher pace, then do so. If there is a rider who can ride at 5% less than your pace, then maybe you can lead them and show some pointers.

But rest assured, if there is a rider out there tomorrow who can only muster 20mph then I'll be glad to be in front and lead a bit.

Nobody will be left to ride alone, guaranteed.

Granted none of here have set any track records, but I'm sure some of our most seasoned riders can offer points to help others out. That's the way I learned. :)

Cool, you and Greg can troll for cops. Hold on, what am I saying, there never are cops there on that road.

Ok, pre-run the road and look for sand. :)

That was a blast of a ride. It was great to get back out and ride again, despite my frantic, early morning search for a quart of oil, tank gas, and cheap air (tire pressure).

Honestly, I did take it easy, even though I ended up in front.

I also noticed that I need tires, and an oil change. My front is past the wear bars, and the rear is getting really close.
