Radar

Anybody know anything about these?? I'm kinda interested in getting one... I ride/drive in the OV mostly and have been wanted one for the car for forever... But it's kinda cool that I can use this in both... Any comments would be helpful since I'm not really familiar with it. Thanks!

I've been running a radar detector for about two years now with excellent results.
I got my ESCORT 8500 off of EBAY for about $150.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Escort-P ... 335d48f615
It picks up a radar signal about a half a mile away!
And it'll pick em up around corners on Mt. Lemmon.(most of the time) :?
I have it wired directly to the battery and mounted on a TECHMOUNT 50 mm fork bracket.(Tucker Rocky catalog)at OAM

Hey,

OAM has a sale on the one you linked to ...

For me though, I use the Escort 9500ix, love the gPS feature, radar marks, camera marked, and a secondary speedo to tell me exactly how fast I'm going.

Honestly I'm shocked I havent gotten one in my car yet (knock on wood) lol But on the bike its bound to happen. Thanks, I'll check out the escorts and maybe go bug OAM and see what they think about that other one too! :D

I have the TPX that you gave a link to. I love it. It has saved me on several occasions. I am not quite sure of the range, but each time it has lit up, I was sure to see Johnny Law very soon thereafter. I made a mount for mine, but I know they have factory mounts. I am going to the OAM bike night tonight. If you are there, I will show it to you. I have it connected directly to my battery.

Why didn't the moron who took the pic focus on the radar detector?

I have a Valentine One that I swear by. The only thing about it is you have to get the little audio adapter to plug speakers into. I run cheap little helmet speakers inside my padding, then run a cable to the adapter velcroed on top of the unti. The actual unit is mounted to the bars using the Techmount system. I have used this setup for a couple of years, and it has not let me down yet. The thing about any system is that it will struggle to save you when the police radar is the 'instant on' kind which they will sit hidden somewhere until you come along and zap you when they see you, but often you will pick them up from afar when they zap the people in front of you. The really good thing about this one is that it shows you the direction of threat, which is a very useful feature. It makes sorting out the nature of what's out there a LOT easier to figure out. It also lifts off quick to transfer to the car if you want... no hassle at all. I cannot recommend it enough, anything that adds some measure of security is a good thing, and this one has paid for itself many times, although I can't think why as I never go over the speed limit??!!?

I used the TPX one for about a month or so, mostly highway riding and alot of radar camera's and vans... It wasn't too bad, I liked the bigger buttons, made it easier to use, and had the LED alert as well, which would grab my attention, the sounds I never heard over the exhaust or wind noise and I never hooked up the wireless headset... For the cost it is really good. If you want to get crazy and spend the $500 for the 9500ix then go for it, you won't be disappointed, I keep eying that one myself, just can't justify the cash for it yet, I just try to keep it around the speed limit, haha

Today was my first day with the TPX (thanks Dean for pointing the OAM deal). It took me 1 hour to install it, mostly because I had to access the battery and route the harness. It was a no-brainer.

First impression: easy to use, visual alert not bright enough in daylight (we are in Tucson baby), sound of the main unit useless, catch the band x door opener, but I was running it in highway mode on Broadway. Since it lets know it is a band X, no worry. Have to change the battery of the wireless audio.

Had to buy a mount form adaptive to fit the ZX10 (the one for OAM was for a R6) paid $100 which is quite expensive but good quality and vibration dampening:

Ok sweet! I'm looking a bunch, but I'm glad a few people have experience with both! :) I'm prolly gonna wait till my budget goes up or just wait a few months to get one for my birthday.. I just have already had close calls with speeding car/bike so I wanna get that taken care of 8-)

So, I changed the position of the TPX visual alert from the speedo to the top of the windshield, and now I can not miss it. Diodes are sure bright enough in that position.

I also installed the audio alert and it is very nice: I am riding with headphone bud (Skullcandy, I recommend) playing music, and still can hear the tone from the radar.

Now lets fly through town and see if I got a ticket :facepalm3:

Next time try TechMounts for all your mount needs.

What are you going to do with the R6 mount?

I don't have any use for the R6 mount. New one sell for $60. Anyone interested for $30?

Thanks for the link to Techmount. Radar application for ZX10R give me one for $60, though the Adaptive one looks way better with the damping elastomers but it costs $85 (you got what you paid for, isn't it?).
