Tucson Drivers are STUPID!!!!!!

Postby Goose on Tue Mar 09, 2010 3:14 pm

Ok here's the thing, doesn't anyone in Tucson know the "unwritten" rule of the lanes on a 3-lane road? Well here it is--- the left most lane is the "FAST LANE" and the right most lane is the "SLOW LANE"!!!! This is the ONLY city that I have ever driven in that is backwards. It seems like you Tucson drivers need to learn the rules of the road or stay the fuck off the streets, you are slowing down the people that know how to drive. If you are in the Left lane and the 2 other lanes are passing you then get out of that lane, move to the right lane and drive with the busses. Some people have places to go and don't want to drive 5-10MPH UNDER the speed limit. It's not that hard to go the speed limit or even 5 MPH over. Simply put if the posted speed limit is 45MPH the left most lane should be moving at 50-55MPH, the center lane at 45-50mph and the right lane should be doing 45 or under.

Also IF there is a cop going under the speed limit PASS HIM/HER!!!!! Do you not know that they do it to laugh at you because you are too chicken to pass them. When it comes to traffic laws cops are the biggest HYPOCRITES on the planet, they have to follow the same laws that they are sworn to uphold. Do they do that.............NO! Go around them they can't do ANYTHING if you are not breaking the law.

About the speed cameras around town, you have an 11MPH buffer before they will flash you. I'm tired of these stupid ass Tucson drivers going 5MPH UNDER the speed limt when they come up on a speed camera. COME ON people grow a pair and just drive buy them. Just incase you are math challenged----if the speed limit is 40MPH you can safely go 45MPH, since it won't take your picture till you hit 51MPH.

Then we have the assholes that think they don't have to stop at the red lights, what are you people fucking special..............NO. if the light turns yellow and you have room to stop then STOP. its not going to kill you to sit at a light for 2-3 mins, but it just might kill you to run through the red light. I have gone by several accidents at intersections where some IDIOT had to run the light causing a big accident, those people should stay home and off of the streets since they are obviously to stupid to know what RED means.

I feel your pain, brother. But.......you're wasting your breath on this site. I would think that just about everyone on here understands the "unwritten law". (Since we are all into motorcycles, and speed, and being set apart from the brainless everyday cagers of Tucson.)

I have often thought of becoming a LEO just to try and "educate" a lot of drivers here. But, one....there are just too many stupid drivers here for one man to deal with. And two......I would be the MOST HATED cop in Tucson!

Goose, I agree with you completely, but before you complain about others not know the law, you should know the law first.
It's not an "UNWRITTEN" rule, it's 100% lawfull NOT to drwritten ... ARS 28-721 which states ...

ARS wrote: 28-721. Driving on right side of roadway; exceptions
A. On all roadways of sufficient width, a person shall drive a vehicle on the right half of the roadway except as follows:
1. When overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction under the rules governing the movement.
2. When the right half of a roadway is closed to traffic while under construction or repair.
3. On a roadway divided into three marked lanes for traffic under the rules applicable on the roadway.
4. On a roadway designated and signposted for one-way traffic.
B. On all roadways, a person driving a vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall drive the vehicle in the right-hand lane then available for traffic or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.

For me, I live by the unwritten rule you mentioned. I always stay right if faster cars are behind me, it's just good common sense that any vehicle that should overtake another should do so on the left. so being slow means staying right so faster cars can pass properly.

I learned this the hard way when traveling on I-10 when the speed limit was 65. Drivers doing 65 would stay in the left lane out of the trucker grooves. I'd get right behind one on the left lane and then got pulled over and warned for tailgating. If the speed limit is 65 and they are doing 65 in the left lane, they do not have to pull to the right for faster approaching cars.

But there is good news, I have seen more people getting tickets for going slow in the left than the opposite. Yay!

And yes, WTF is the panic reaction of folks driving next to LEO's and doing less than the speed limit. most times officers are checking their terminal or slowing down to scope out a scene ... and of course everybody else slows down too. I pass LEO's every day of the week doing the speed limit, and sometime +5 over.

another thing I heard from APS contractors is they are pushing to get speed cameras to trip at +3 over. So don't count on that +11 rule.

LARA LOGAN: Does it make you angry when people talk about, you know, 'Sean Penn, the Hollywood star, the movie star, coming in and trying to do something,' and they're kind of cynical about it?

SEAN PENN: No.

LOGAN: Do you hate that question?

PENN: No. I guess I've been so away from it all, [in] our tent camp in Haiti, that I haven't had an awful lot of time to pay attention to them. You know, do I hope that those people die screaming of rectal cancer? Yeah, you know, but I'm not going to spend a lot of energy on it.

I usually reserve the left lane for when I'm about to make a left hand turn, the rest of the time I'm cruising down the middle. Unless I'm about to make a right hand turn. And yes, this morning some douchebag in a bmw was doing 10 under the limit in the middle lane.

People also need to learn that the reason that there are "Stop" signs and "Yield" signs is because they are two different things. Stop means hit your damn breaks. Yield means slow down and be on the lookout for intersecting traffic, and be ready to stop, but keep rolling if its clear.

And don't get me started on the ass clowns who use the center median as an on ramp to merge onto Grant Road after turning left out of a shopping center. Don't go until the lane of travel is clear for you to enter!

The irony of this is that I'm the first person to curse out anyone driving at all to my disliking, and out of state plates just mean you get less leeway. Meanwhile, how long have I kept my Alaska plate on my bike? People probably curse me out thinkin I'm a student from AK. Meanwhile I learned to drive in NY, and am a year round AZ resident (but you don't get photo radar tickets with out of state plates...and on a side note I officially have a PO box in Scottsdale for all my photo radar tickets to get mailed to, have fun trying to serve me now!)

mine barely does, but not legally. Doesn't stop me much, but I do try to avoid it. I don't trust any of the drivers in this town not to open a door to knock me off the bike.
